One week of peace, and rest. Five miles from the nearest road. Still had Dish, internet, full kitchen, BBQ grill, 3 queen beds, and 2 twin beds. We had 350 people make the walk (11 mile round trip), or kayak trip out there. While you inland people were roasting, I was enjoying a cool ocean breeze. Cruise ships, submarines Orca pods, and a very healthy coyote. Even had a boat involved in the wooden ship days come by. It was a lifeboat that even had Admiral Nimitz grace its deck during WWII. Name: Stevenston Lifeboat Year Built: 1944 Designer: US Navy Description: Steveston Lifeboat – Profile of a service boat – Whether it’s a fishing net clogging a propeller or a gale driving a boat on shore, fishermen’s lives and livelihoods are being saved by a dedicated group of volunteers in Steveston, (a part of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada). Steveston Lifeboat was made for service. Her 52 food long wood hull was built by the Naval shipyards in Pearl Harbor in 1944. She was carried as an Admiral’s Barge, or personal launch, aboard the aircraft carriers, USS Saratoga and USS Midway. http://newdungenesslighthouse.com/keeper-program/

Not many of us laughed at the lighthouse, we laughed at the idea of a WaGuns retreat. Here is your thread from over 2 years ago: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=54047I think that is AWESOME! How was the inside, what type of work did you do while you were there, did you take the kids?

Been up and down the Pacific coast visiting light houses, never laughed at one.
I was chuckling that the Coast Guard used to equip their small craft with jugs of oil for pouring into the water to calm the seas. Now they give you a ticket for leaving oil residue in the water.

I put up, and took down the flag, answered peoples questions, polished some knobs (brass ones of course ), and we cut the grass. The inside of the quarters were immaculate, all linens, and kitchen utensils supplied. Take the kids? Eff no! Although my daughter was nice enough to drop me off, and pick me up was greatly appreciated. I'm not sure I could have driven that far with the lack of sleep from sleep apnea. My son who is 20, and finally got a job starting next week? NO! Donating $375 for a week for myself in a nice room to myself was a bargain. Pay over $700 extra for a couple of digital kids, no. It would be great for 3 or 4 couples that all know each other to rent out. It was me, a guy from AZ, and a couple from Bainbridge that came out this week. So only four total. We took turns greeting the visitors that came from as far away as England.

A bunch of yehoos thought I was crazy to pay to do "work". These lighthouses, and hundreds around the country would not exist if not for volunteers, and donations. There is only one LH in the country that is still maintained by the CG as mandated by Congress. Out of 350 people that visited, we got less than $70 in donations. The group that took our place came out to paint the house. The manager for this LH is one of six people in the country certified to work on those fancy glass/brass lenses used back in the day.

If you want to go sooner get on the wait list. There are always cancellations when people book that far in advance. "Just another week in the life of the golddigger huh?" Somebody has to step up. (And step up, and step up, and step up....74 steps to the top) Thankfully it was shortened 30 feet in 1927.

Glad you enjoyed it, golddigger There are some gorgeous Lighthouses with coastal views in Oregon (I may have mentioned in a PM). Was going to look into them when we got home, but never did.
