I'm a hardcoe HF addict. I haven't noticed any price gouging on the crap I buy there, but I haven't been actively checking other sources, I'll pay closer attention from now on.

I haven't noticed the prices going up at the store near me (Hwy 99 in Edmonds). I still think the value is good on most items, although there are items I won't buy there because they don't pass my QC.

Painting tools... Actually cheaper at the wal-mart. Comparably priced at the Lowes.
Walking through the store, I saw a lot of tools for almost the same price I had just seen them for, at Lowes. Some were even more expensive.
Got a 'free' multiple screwdriver, with my purchase. They claim a 13 dollar "value". It generally sells for a bit over 4 dollars. Was in the 'cheap box' at the front of the store, for 2.99. It is much more cheaply made than the one you can get at Lowes, every day, for just $3.50.

I think they jack the prices up to account for the 20% off coupons they distribute everywhere.
I don't buy a whole lot there but some things are good to go cheap on like epoxy brushes and rubber gloves.
I bought a small fountain pump for flushing boat motors with star brite, really nasty stuff. I figured for $8 if it did 1 motor I'd be happy, it's done two now.

I went through 4 gloves the other day to get one that didn't tear when I was mixing some JB Weld putty. But to be fair most of the tools on my boat are from HF. And I think their Pittsburg line of tools are comparable to Craftsman, just cheaper.
I usually stock up on their AA and AAA alkaline batteries when the had the 3.99 coupon for a 24 pack --- perfectly suitable for all the remotes laying around --- stay away from the 'heavy duty' ones. Nowadays, the coupons are for 5.99 and 6.99 -- not that good of a deal at that point.

I bought a 36" pair of bolt cutters there about 15 years ago for $12.99 Lined them all up on the floor and picked out the only one that had aligned jaws.
Cheap Chinese shit. Probably be OK for home use if you didn't use it very often.

Exactly the point. Thank you.
