Family........forges and smiths will be there when you have time in the future. Saw this on facebook and based on his time demands i think his cleaning and coffee bitch may not get much time in the apprentice zone. This is all assuming he really has some amazing (and they best be amazing) skillz and knowledge to pass on

Kids then Wife. That's where the time really matters. I wish I had spent more time with my two oldest ones, no matter how much money I make I can't buy that time back when they were younger.

I started making knives last year. I’m teaching myself mostly. I watch a lot of YouTube videos and learn from my mistakes. You may surprise yourself with how quickly you pick up knowledge. Spend time with family and have no regrets!
ETA: unless it’s a paid apprenticeship you’ll just be giving away free labor.

I did the same. Watched a lot of YouTube vids, then just monkey see monkey do. Most of my knife making time was after the kids are in bed.
