hang on a sec. some of you guys are upset over the system, but maybe you forget that this guy worked his ass off, worked his way up the ladder and decided to retire with a pension? he would have lost his entire pension had he taken that promotion without retiring first. which one of you saints would walk away from a MILLION DOLLARS? GTFO with your sanctimony. people in the comments section saying he can't say he has a "family to support" because he makes $230k/yr and has a $1mil retirement, jerkoffs just jealous because they can't or don't know how to work hard to obtain that type of retirement. being a public servant doesn't mean you don't get to reap the benefits of hard work, ya know.

Talk about sanctimonious... not everybody gets to be chief... there has to be a bunch of indians.
Nobody here said they wanted him to walk away from his retirement, just not be the gravy sucking pig at the expense of the taxpayers - many of whom are quite hard working but just not as fortunate, or quick, or well connected or whatever circumstances bring such largess.

Most people that "Retire" get to work after but....
Usually if you make over a certain percentage of your original pay.....they take that money. Or you get to only make a Certain amount.
Ask A Fire Fighter. My neighbor is one..and he drove school bus after he retired.
I've heard of teachers (professors) doing this stacking as well....

Minutes the payout, don't tell me you've never seen some senior enlisted like a command Master Chief create a civilian billet before he leaves that miraculously he can just slip right into

Quote: And because he was officially retired, he was able to collect his $240,000-per-year pension on top of his salary when he returned to work. Wow. I work in the private sector and I save a lot for retirement, but holy cow! If I wanted to retire at 55 and collect $240k per year until 85, assuming my investments still get 8% annual growth, I'd need $2.75M saved.
