The media still can't come to terms with the modern era and being cut out as the information middle man. They loved the control they had and Trump is a product of the end of that kind of control.

I remember driving past the newspaper building in my hometown. Massive building holding massive machines. The side facing the street was mostly glass so people could see all of it working. I'm sure it took a lot of ad revenue to keep that going. Nowadays we get the news digitally. No need for all that machinery. The journalists have not done themselves any favors and will follow shortly behind.
If you want to see where the future of media is headed look to porn or religion, both have huge followings as well as a vested interest in "getting the word out"*
