https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/87-year-old-woman-tasered-by-police-while-cutting-dandelions-family-says/812963216Quote: CHATSWORTH, Ga. - A Chatsworth woman says she was stunned with a Taser by police while she was out cutting dandelions outside a Boys and Girls Club.
Investigators said they got a 911 call from the club about the woman, but the caller said the woman wasn't a threat.
Chatsworth police officers found 87-year old Martha al-Bishara on the property when they arrived.
Police said they ordered Bishara to drop the knife and then shocked her with a Taser. 87 y/o woman, caller said she was cutting vegetation and couldn't get around very well, not a thhreat...Cops roll up, demand she drop her kitchen knife that she was using to cut dandelions, she doesn't speak english 'didn't comply' and they tased her.... But hey, they went home at the end of the night, right?

Again, another misleading article.
Actual article should be, woman with large knife outside boys and girls club confronted by cops, refused to drop the knife, and was tased. Claims she was 'cutting dandelions.'
Facts: Police got a call about a lady with a knife outside a kids club, and responded. HTF would they have known this woman's intentions was to "cut dandelions?" When have you EVER seen someone cutting dandelions with a large knife, and especially bad idea to be doing it outside a kids club given the school massacres often in the news?!
Apparently, when the cops rolled up, she refused to put down the knife. Me? That knife would be in the dirt and my hands up.
Nah, this is a case of a dumb and non-compliant person with zero situational awareness getting a few volts of juice to wake her up to reality.
I remember when right after a few Army base shootings, some moron on base decided it was a good idea to go marching around in full combat loadouts with (a real or fake, I don't recall) AR15. The MPs weren't too pleased with him, base was on high alert for a terrorist attack, etc.
There's just some requirement in life to apply some common sense.

She was 87, probably HOH, and English was not her first language. And yah, kitchen knives are a thing in gardening, even if you have better tools at hand. I use a sod knife all the time to pry out the bastard dandelions, but I sometimes use an old butter knife to take out moss in sidewalk cracks.
They're lucky she survived. The question is, who was the (swear word) who called the police on an old woman cleaning up a public space?
And I agree that TW needs a new hobby.

And I agree that TW needs a new hobby. Her age is largely irrelevant. Old people can still be murderers. It's not gardening when you're across the street on someone else's property without permission, and when that location is a kids club. Oh, and there's no garden. You don't take any open weapons over to a kids club or a school. When cops confront you, if you can see or hear them at all and you are holding any weapon, put it down. That's like day 1 common sense class. I have no sympathy for someone who lives here and can't speak the language. Solution is to have learned the language. Or did she just arrive at 87 years old to the world and planet earth? If I'm anywhere in any location and cannot speak the lingo, and cops roll up, they have my FULL attention, my hand are empty, and up, and I make no threatening moves. Pretty basic stuff, even for someone who lived thru WWII, Korea, Vietnam, all the social and global unrest, and the GWOT, and school shootings and stabbings for her entire life. Has she been in a box?

This is one of those situations that seems to me to be misrepresented for cause. Quote: “She’s so old, she can’t get around too well,” the caller told the 911 dispatcher. “Looks like she’s walking around looking for something, like, vegetation to cut down or something.” So far I bet the police are expecting to be making a welfare check. Quote: “She just brought the knife onto the property in her hand. She didn’t try to attack anybody or anything,” Douhne said. But that will certainly have a police officer -ready- for danger. 87 year olds can swing and poke knives sufficiently to injure or kill. Quote: When police arrived, they ordered Bishara, who doesn’t speak English, to drop the knife. When they say she didn’t and moved toward them, they shocked her with the Taser. Good Tase. Quote: “She really didn’t know what was going on or why they were there. She had no clue what to expect,” Douhne said. I'll bet dollars against donuts that she'll drop the knife the next time.
