Same here. Got worse for a while. I had some difficulty.

Started clearing just a bit, a little while ago.

Smoke is still thick enough that you almost can't see the other side of the valley.

But the light has gone back to something closer to normal for this hour.

Talked to my daughter in Oly today, she said they were told to hold their breath for the next couple of days.

All that remains of the ranch house--formerly 5 bedrooms, 3 baths. Plus attic lofts. All of the outbuildings, including the new stable and the corral, burned. This was the Angel Springs fire northwest of Spokane. The boys' grandparents lost 1700 acres out of 3500. So some of the smoke is sort of my family's fault?

Way to go, increasing your carbon footprint.

This...but as long as everybody is safe, the rest is just "stuff" and the acreage will regrow in time.

It still sucks though. icon_eek

Yah. Jeff had the good sense to trailer the horses before going to bed. So they got out with the horses. And they are blessed to have both money and insurance.

They weren't going to rebuild, they're in their 70's, and have a house in Utah and another in New Zealand, but they like that Roald, my youngest, is a damned horse whisperer (Norwegian Fjord and Percheron), so they've changed their minds. Which is good, the horses are being boarded outside of Spokane and are really not liking it.

Car was covered this AM. Chunks big enough I could feel them hitting me aren't coming from Canada.

Someone mentioned to check your homes air filters. I only have one for my heater that works in the winter.

What I'm wondering about now is how the one in the car is holding up???
The "cabin filter".

We have two portable air filters, one up and one down, that we run during this time of the year when we're not running central air handlers.

In very few cases those wildfires are accidental.
Just follow the money, gents!

Emmerson got hosed by the federal government on fire. SPI lost 22,500 acres to the federal government after the Moonlight fire as compensation. I'm pretty sure he ain't lighting them.
