Just a heads up folks....

Apparently Wa State changed the Blow n Go restrictions a year or so ago.

Just got off the phone with the BnG 1-800 number. They no longer will let a Repair Facility in Wa State temporarily bypass the system.

There's no mechanic alive that wants to blow in your Blow n Go for obvious reasons.

Its taken DWI and Ignition interlock to another level.

I'm working on such a car today, the owner is going to have to bum a ride here so he can move the truck from the parking lot to a place I can work on it.

Not saying its a bad thing.

Just a public service announcement.

No Drink n Drive worth this hassle.

Stupid question time: Does "bypass the system" mean the mechanic blowing into it, or can you run LP air through it to bypass? Is that what's against the new law?

Yea, you've got an air compressor right?

Can't you just blow some air through it?

What are the obvious reasons? Not talking about hygenics here - but legal.

Ever seen a CPR mask? Design one of those for the BnG. Require the owner to pay for them - just like any other shop supplies. Make it a profit center.

In TX you have to say something while blowing to get the vehicle started.
Friend of mine had a cold and her voice was hoarse.
Had to have a friend start it for her as the breathalyzer didn't understand her.
Her ex husband got 3 years in prison for his 3rd DUI.

Funny. A few years ago I was in a local shop and the owner/mechanic had the same issue. In his case the vehicle was owned by a local female.

He said that blowing into that would be like having oral sex with all the guys she'd been with over the last 6 months.

He just used short piece of hose he cut fresh off a roll. As I understand the air has to be warm so just using compressed air won't work.

BTW, Ignition Interlock mouthpieces are sold online. Cost is around $6 each, less in larger packs. Keep a couple on hand and just add $20 to the invoice.

Crikey.
I didn't know that these things were that common. I figured maybe half a dozen in the state, and thought that was kind of high.

One of my clients has two sons, both have them on their trucks, bunch of DUI's.
One guy was having his taken off after his probation ended.
I told him he should leave it on, might need it again someday. Hahahaha

In 2017 there were 382 DUI arrests in Yakima alone.
I'd guess there are at least 5-10,000 interlock devices in WA state. Could be more.
Everyone convicted of a DUI in WA needs to have one in order to drive.
And they can make you have one for several years, during your probation.

They're extremely common. So are the methods some use to bypass them. A case a few years ago involved an accident where the driver, who had an interlock on his vehicle, would take his young daughter with him when drinking so she could blow in the device to get the vehicle started. I believe it was over a fatal accident.

With all the drivers requiring interlocks, drug users, pot smokers, and cell phone users on the highway it might be safer to walk through a South Chicago street at midnight with money sticking out of your pocket than drive down our freeways and highways. Yesterday I had a driver behind me that only bothered to look up from his phone about every 30 seconds or so while in heavy traffic on 405. Either a cell phone or he had just discovered his penis

When I encountered BnG devices in my A.O., you had to blow, then suck to get them to work. Most of the vehicles also had a small camera to take a pic of who was using the device. I also flat refused to put those things in my mouth. I got chewed out by a super, who showed me it was no big deal to stick the thing in his mouth. By the end of shift he had a big assed cold sore on his lip, which took 3 days to heal. I LOLed.

That's funny as hell, but kind of sad too. :ROFLMAO:
Does that qualify as karma?

This is what I'm talking about! No experience with BnG, except to occasionally see someone starting their car with one.

I keep a CPR mask in each vehicle. Unless I knew you, you'd die before I'd give you CPR without one.

I could never get the things to work.
You have to hum and blow, at a certain flow rate, for a certain time. Pain in the ass. Then you have to do do it again a few minutes later.

And if you don't supply a new, sealed, mouthpiece, I'm not doing it. Period.
