All HI resupply is by boat/plane. both harbors and runways can easily get duobleplusfcucked by a hurricane. Like most disasters, for the majority of folks it is the aftermath that's tough to survive.

Will the hotels that have 'all you can eat' buffets cut back to 'one trip' only?

Talked with the guys at the Port last night and they have container ships off of our coast on hold waiting for the storm to pass. Hopefully the docks aren't to damaged to offload supplies there.

Maybe the 30" of water will slow down the lava flows.

I remembered our helicopter tour guide saying something about the limited supply for the entire state if ships stopped coming in, Here's from an article in 2015: Quote: “If something catastrophic happened on the mainland, we’d have about three days of food in the stores" thats only 3 DAYS! worth of food http://www.takepart.com/article/2015/06 ... local-food

Grocery stores usually carry enough stock to cover about 3 days, assuming typical sale volumes. Take a bunch of bridges out of the transportation picture because they fell down or are deemed unsafe, and each store becomes an island unto itself. In 3 days, those islands will be looking pretty barren.

The more convenient and interconnected our species has become, the more stable and pleasant our standard of living. Interrupt that interconnectedness and stability and watch the friendly people turn into starving animals.
I do not expect that to happen on HI, but it's coming some time. A big SME, the supervolcano, 9.0 on the west coast, a coordinated and well planned series of terrorist attacks, asteroid / big meteor strike ... Any number of other things are going to reveal some primate tendencies in our neighbors and ourselves perhaps.

Maybe a Federal judge over there in Hawaii can issue an injunction, end the storm. Bonus points if he/she/it can blame Trump for all of the trouble as well.
