If you want a protection/ Working GSD there are breeders for those, but your average shepherd from some home breeder isn't that.

Think about what characteristics you want in a dog, then do plenty of research on the breed you are considering. I've been a dog guy my who life, and have had a few different breeds. The Boxer is my favorite, great family dog, loves kids, loves his family, extremely loyal, great watch dog, has loads of character, and is puppy like for years. The people I know who have boxers are noxer for life people. https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/boxer/Good luck with your search!

In all seriousness i just started this thread just to Fuck with Steve. Tera wants a dog, he doesn't so i have had my fun with it. On the other hand, i do think he would enjoy a nice mellow pooch like rocketscott's picture above. Dog's can be very good for people. The right dog is a joy to own, and in his case i think the right dog that chooses them from the shelter would be something i think he might actually really like. In his case a dog that's maybe a few years old and past the Puppy stage with a mellow temperament would be just the ticket. I love Dogs, even when they piss me off. I have always had dogs and i always will. No matter what the Wife says.

Steve's a lonely man with an extremely feminine compact SUV withering away in a little condo in Renton with only his guns to keep him company. Are you sure subjecting a dog to that is fair???

It will be fine, Steve can sleep in the Garage and the Dog will be on the Bed next to Tera. Hmmm.....I am going Trap shooting with Steve and Breck tomorrow morning, maybe i should layoff Steve. I think i might start looking like a Clay Pigeon to him.

Sadly, if I treat you like a clay pigeon then you’re likely to remain unscathed.

Quote: Steve can sleep in the Garage and the Dog will be on the Bed next to Tera. Wouldn't that be an upgrade for her?

A Newfoundland would be my second choice, although like the St. Bernard, they are much more people oriented and in need of attention than a Pyr. Yup no danger in stepping in their dogshit either... You may trip over it though. I babysat my sons Lab for a month. I sure miss that pup.
