Looks pretty good for $6

https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/20 ... -francisco

An audience gathers around the transparent 14-foot-long "culinary instrument" in a restaurant called Creator in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood.

Brioche buns are sliced, buttered and toasted by paddles moving like waves in the ocean. They land in specially designed, compostable hamburger boxes. The buns are topped with fresh produce, sourced from local farms, which is sliced on the spot. Cheese is shredded from blocks and added. The in-machine meat grinder has been calibrated to vertically align the meat with diner's incisors. The 4.5-ounce beef patties are ground from brisket and cooked using the induction method, both sides at once, then slid into the boxes.

Never gets your order wrong.
Never takes breaks.
Never spits in your food.
Never, ever asks for a raise.

Number 3 is one reason I never eat fast food.

Never knows when the meat is moldy or crawling with maggots.
Never knows when there is a mouse or cockroach or hair or toenails or ants in the mix.

I wonder how many people it takes to keep the thing clean , working properly, and supplied?

You can automate temperature and humidity controls.
You can have a camera for remote QC at time based intervals (one guy reality checking 10-20 restaurants).
Very easy to automate pest repellent, detection and response.
Extremely easy to automate cleaning. The whole thing can probably go down once a day for immersion sanitation.

Every bit of that, just more complexity. More things to break down. More opportunity for neglect based problems.

Probably all true in the early stages but I think this is inevitable. The tangible benefit is additional higher paying jobs for service and repair techs and robotics manufacturing jobs.

I'll go for that!

Unfortunately, it is also going to mean a need for more regulation.

Automated kiosk and robot burger maker also eliminates employee theft.

In the 90's the wife and I went to the Factoria Taco Bell.
Gave the kid a $20 and he put in his right pocket.
Then gave my change out of his left pocket.
Must have been his last day there. Seemed like some really shady shit.

When robots take over any section of production the net difference in jobs/wages will always be towards less jobs and overall less wages.
Robotics requires a very small amount of repair/adjustment, software/ hardware upgrades. Technology is still improving fast enough that even the upgrades are easy and cheap including labor.
This relates to the "The IQ Problem" thread of a few days ago. UBI too.

Eventually society is going to have to figure out how to employ the low IQ and low-educated masses. Not all of them, but as the pool of the unemployable gets larger we'll have to figure something out.

I played in a couple punk bands back in the day.
Our drummer was a dishwasher as a day job.
If we had a gig and he was supposed to work, he just didn't show up and got another job.
Not much you can do to someone making minimum wage, nor expect them to give a shit about anything.
