Drove down Hollywood Boulevard a few months ago.
So many tents on the sidewalk for several blocks, it looked like REI was having a huge year end tent sale.

Some of those tents don't look cheap.

What exactly is the purpose of the fencing? It gives them plenty of room to "camp" but makes it more dangerous for pedestrians to use the sidewalk under the overpass. I'm guessing there aren't a lot of random pedestrians strolling through the neighborhood, though...

When my cousin came to visit he asked about good hotels, I asked why not pitch a tent, and camp under the space needle?
