When my cousin came to visit he asked about good hotels, I asked why not pitch a tent, and camp under the space needle?

They should rename it The Space For Needles...

No straight face required on the phone, ironically he was visiting between moving so technically was home less. He staid at the Marriott instead.

A bit more expensive, but I'll bet it smelled a lot better. :thumbsup2:

I can't imagine a less pleasant way to spend time while near a computer than watching a live feed from a homeless encampment.

How long has this homeless problem been this visible?

I'm glad you said that.

I only opened this thread again, to say... I don't know how you guys can stand to watch that crap.

The only effect it can have on you is to grow in you, your sense of self-righteousness. And your hatred for those who are not like you.

Personally, I'd rather find something more uplifting, to watch.

Bill Whittle has a pretty good explanation for why at least some of those people are where they are.

Personally, I am not interested in giving them excuses. I think we all make our own decisions. And even the hardest addiction can be beaten, if you really want to. But, 1. It IS an explanation, at least. And some understanding is better than none at all. And 2. dwelling on this crap, watching it, boiling in your own disgust, can only be a destructive endeavor, for your own self. It will only eat you up. No benefit for you, or anyone else.

Maybe you are addicted to hate?

That's a pretty strong condemnation. The feed was also up last year and I would liken it more to a boring episode of COPS than wallowing in self-righteousness over someone else's misfortune.

Drug deals happen in the open, you get some scuffles and once a week or so the police show up and do their thing ("their thing" varies from one visit to the next). Last year most of the attention was focused on how none of the drivers bothered stopping at the stop sign.

The guy who started the feed last year did it because the street activity was hurting his business and Everett PD and everyone else in a position to stop it didn't want to deal with it. Apparently whatever lip service they paid to the problem last year has evaporated and the camera owner felt the need to restart it.

It did come across as a condemnation, didn't it? Thank you for pointing that out.

I didn't mean it that way.

Maybe it came out that way, because I had just watched the Bill Whittle video? I dunno. But seriously, you gotta admit I did a pretty good job of condemning condemnation with a straight face. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Bottom line... I try to stay aware. So I pay attention to this kind of stuff, just enough to be situationally aware. It would be depressing to spend more time than necessary, watching this kind of stuff. And being so, I have to wonder why anyone would WANT to watch it any more than they had to.

That is more along the lines of what I meant to say. Maybe no one else has the same problem. In which case, I was also assumptive.

I won't change the post, because I don't believe in sweeping problems under the rug and pretending they didn't exist. No one learns, that way. But I AM sorry if anyone was made to feel insulted by the post. I didn't mean to condemn or to insult. But I certainly don't seem to have said what I DID mean to say. LOL

Empathy isn't a bad thing. Some people have more than others and some display it more than others.

Last year the feed was at least useful in getting more resources into the area. Hopefully the same will happen now, though it's disappointing that whatever was done earlier was either dropped or wasn't enough to make a real difference.
