When I drove Uber, and then a cab following that....I had a mounted holster in the front seat. I remember catching a bunch of shit in another thread about the danger of that should a pull-over occur. It’s all checks and balances. I decided to keep a hand towel, that I could just toss over the holster long enough to calmly tell an officer that there was a weapon in the car.

It never happened, and I never needed my handgun during that time...but my peace of mind in many situations was well worth the risk to me.

These days I drive a minivan with bucket seats and no console. I’ve got all the room in the world to draw from open or concealed carry without doing contortions. Checks and balances.

That uber driver was pretty damn quick on the draw/fire. It would be curious to know when he actually drew or were he had his weapon. I am not going for my weapon everytime someone cuts me off. It is normal procedure to cut people off around here it seems. But the speed at which these sort of thing happen really gives me pause and makes me think about some of these situations differently.

10sec after he cuts him off and you hear the horn, the truck stops and he is stepping out. 4 seconds later the Uber driver has shot him after he approached and appeared to raise a gun. That may seem like a long time to people, but seated in a vehicle, drawing a weapon from concealment is going to take a couple seconds out of that 4 or less he had reacting to The attacked exiting his vehicle.. I am thinking there was probably previous video/build up to this final conclusion and maybe the uber driver already had his weapon handy?

Wasn't very long ago, I was on a back road.

For about 3 miles, it is very secluded. Even noise from there would not likely reach anyone to hear it. No one was likely to come down that road again, for hours.

A vehicle pulled onto the road behind me, as I entered the secluded area. For about a mile, they were doing everything they could to get me to pull over.

After I gave them room to pass me, and they didn't just pass me, I finally figured out that they were trying to get me to pull over and stop.

Something in my gut told me not to do so. I also pulled my handgun from it's holster and wedged it in place beside me, so I could get it out of there in a hurry. In case they somehow forced me off the road.

They were not as aggressive as this guy was. Yet, I prepared myself.

I am not surprised that he was already ready to respond when he saw what appeared to be a gun.

Discussion after your post aside I would have done the same thing in your situation, or at least done whatever possible to make my weapon that much faster to deploy. There was an obvious potential threat. That is what makes me think that maybe the attacker has been following or doing similar to the uber driver and he was ready before or as soon as the truck stopped had his weapon handy.

As for Uber driver, fast draw. But but why not U-turn and skidaddle?

When I drive, I often wedge a holstered gun b/t the consol and passenger seat. Would take a significant impact to jar it free. Probably should get something mounted, but the idea of mounting something permanent is not ideal IMO.

I set a ball cap over it to keep it out of plain view. Looks very natural.

Take it with me or lock in box in car when I leave the car. Simple simple.

You can also get a small satchel holster that locks into the seatbelt if you are really uptight about it.

As for losing it in an accident, I suppose it could occur. I also have on on-body in the event that happens. The wedged one if for faster draw if carjacked.
