A police officer in North Carolina has been put on paid leave (..) throwing his ability to “function effectively” as a cop into question, according to the department’s chief.

"How?", you ask? His crime?

Spoiler: show

Quote:
Chapel Hill Police Officer Cole P. Daniels, who joined the department in 2014, was placed on leave Monday after being photographed earlier this month with a distinctive tattoo – a Roman numeral three encircled by stars — associated to the Three Percenters, a group considered by the Southern Poverty Law Center to be among the antigovernment movement that had a resurgence following the election of President Obama in 2008.

That's right...

The Southern Poverty Lying Center lists 3%ers as 'anti-government', 'right wing extremists'...and of course, saw membership spike when a black President was voted into office, so, clearly racist too....

So, they suspended him.

How the fuck does a gov't agency use SPLC as a source?

I can find no reference to his department using SPLC as its source for the disciplinary action. Can you?

I guess the idea of supporting the constitution = anti-gov't just sprang out of nowhere...

That's a different premise than this:

The reporter who wrote one of the articles dredged up SPLC's name. Nowhere in the statement given by the police chief was SPLC mentioned. Here's part of what the chief said:

Quote:
“The pervasiveness of the concerns raised by many regarding his display of a tattoo that is associated with the ‘3 Percenters’ has caused the Department to question his ability to function effectively as a police officer within this community,” Police Chief Chris Blue said in a statement.

This article -- https://www.charlotteobserver.com/latest-news/article217573000.html says the chief has had some sort of concern about the officer's tattoo since at least February, which may be why he described the concerns as pervasive. This tattoo might conflict with the department's rules on ink.

The officer is on paid leave until the department completes an investigation.

3%'ers was a reference to the 3% of colonists that battled the King...

The SPLC is the one that has heightened things by listing them on their Hate Report.

There are no reports of them doing anything illegal, inciting violence, or anything else. Al the things the SPLC used to care about.

This is nothing more than the thought police chasing down those the SPLC "hates".

The main point being, diversity in pictures, photo ops, etc., but no diversity in thought.

He could have a quote from the Koran on his arm, and be protected and defended, but a quote from the Constitution, well, that's apparently hate now...

Agreed. It looks to me like anything associated with strong conservatism is being hailed as anti-government.
Oathkeepers and 3%ers have somehow become associated with "far right wing"? I am admittedly ignorant of much that goes on in this world, but I admire what those two groups stand for. Am not aware of anything that would make them hated.

The SPLC’s stated mission is to seek out hate groups.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Edited-for the correct alphabet soup group

The SPLC is even worse...they have a 'Hate Map'....but you can get off it if you have enough money...

And any politician or government entity that doesn't hate who they hate, gets attacked & painted with the same brush as whomever they are accusing...

They had a time, and a place, but have devolved into becoming that which they despised....

Well, yeah. Those who stand up against tyrannical government are "against" tyrannical government.

Time grows short.

SPLC is itself a hate organization.

Yea, I'm an idiot...

I meant SPLC but ACLU came out when I typed it on my phone.
