Who was the coach, Stuart Smalley? https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2018/ ... ut-losses/After a pair of lopsided losses to start off the year, the Healdsburg High School football team has decided to turn in its uniforms and cancel the rest of the season. The stands at Recreation Park will be a little lonelier this fall after the football players on the struggling Healdsburg High School Greyhounds quit for the remainder of the year.

On a brighter note, the newly formed Buttercup Ballet Club has seen an influx of new members...

After reading the actual article....
18 kids were on Varsity. Two quit leaving them 16. Then three more dropped out leaving them 13.
Even playing 8v8 which is what it looks like they are playing only having 5 subs means quite a few kids playing the whole game. Also looks like this is a repeat of other years. Looking back it looked like they lost a couple other games by big blowout too.
Sounds like this was more of a big build up over past years leading to kids just not wanting to play anymore more than just losing two games and calling it quits.
Only thing i dont get is they say their JV has 30 players. So why cant they just bring up replacements?

That would give the kids the message that if you are willing to put out the effort, you can earn a place on the team, and a chance to actually win a game. We can't have that! It's more important to make sure the kids stay in their place.

Looks like that high school needs Coach Brown from Independence Community College. He turned that team around. However, I doubt they'll be able to handle his coaching style.

A tragic lesson of quitting and weakness. Very irresponsible for these parents and a bad lesson to teach teens that if it's hard or a bit dangerous then quit.
Looking back at my old football pics out of curiosity when I was in middle school, we had about 25-30 kids on the team. By the time of high school, for various reasons (delinquency, drugs, grades, interest) our varsity team only had 15-20 at most. I do remember there were a few games that, because of illness or injuries we were barely able to field 11 healthy bodies. We had 18 on my senior year team of varying skill from barely able to play and even some with college potential. We never posted a winning season in my HS football career, but we played hard and had fun. Never considered quitting, and I cannot imagine the humiliation of quitting.
Just have to shake my head at the weak kids we are producing, from weak minded policies and parents.

Reinstating the draft and 2 years mandatory service would toughen up a lot of these kids. Harsh? You betcha! But look at where our country is going. I’m not sure of the percentage but quite a few of the 18-25 year olds are now members of the professionally offended crowd.
