If this is true...
“You should lead an examination of a full ban on handguns and assault weapons in Canada, while not impeding the lawful use of firearms by Canadians.”
And handguns will be banned as well...then,

Huh,,,,,,,How will/could this happen.?
The statement as it stands is semi-Oxymoronic and a non sequitur.
If they're banned then theres no reason to say 'lawful' use ....or 'use' of any kind.

There's merely a limited group of individuals that can own certain firearms. As that group gets older and passes on the firearms can only be transferred to another member of the group of grandfathered individuals that can own prohibited firearms. It's like Highlander: In the end there can be only one... ...then that guy passes away and all the guns get destroyed.

American suffered 8 years of Mister Hopeless And Change For The Worse.
Canadians can hopefully come to their senses, and send Mister Gay White North Hoser, Eh ? packing after only a four year term.

The police union came out and said that a handgun ban would have no effect:
"There's no way in my world or any world I know that this would have an impact on somebody who's going to go out and buy an illegal gun and use it to kill another person or shoot another person," Mike McCormack, the president of the Toronto Police Association, said Friday.
