Homeowners discover two suspects burglarizing their property near Orting; one suspect held at gunpoint by victims as second suspect flees on foot and is later caught by officers. Suspect tells deputies: "(expletive) it, I'm going to prison for ten years anyways"

At 1:39 a.m. this morning deputies with our Foothills Detachment responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting that her husband was holding a burglary suspect at gunpoint outside their residence on 128th St. E. in the McMillin area. the caller told the dispatchers that a second suspect had ran away heading westbound toward State Route 162.

When deputies arrived at the house they observed a suspect standing next to three trailers with his hands up in the air, and saw a large set of bolt cutters in he grass near the suspect. the homeowner was instructed to put down his weapon; the suspect was ordered to the ground and then was placed into handcuffs. Deputies quickly obtained a description of the second suspect and began to contain the area in preparation for a K9 response and search.

The homeowners told the deputies that they had been asleep and were woke by the sound of a loud vehicle driving past their house; they said that a few minutes later a motion alarm on their fence was activated, and they went outside and discovered two suspects by their trailers.

The detained suspect told the deputies that he was homeless and addicted to heroin, and he needed money. He said that he and a friend were going to break into the victims' trailers and carport to steal items, and said his friend brought the bolt cutters but they were unable to steal anything before being confronted by the homeowners. In the suspect's pocket, deputies located a key to a Jeep Liberty. The 30 year old suspect was later booked into jail for Burglary in the 2nd degree.

As one of our K9's began to search the victim's neighborhood, our deputies located an unoccupied suspicious purple Jeep Liberty parked approximately 3 blocks down the road. Officers from Bonney Lake Police went to the registered address of the Jeep and determined that the owner's son was last in possession of the vehicle; the owner said that her son had called her minutes earlier asking to be picked up but she declined. Officers made phone contact with the son, who gave various locations where he was located; as officers continued talking to the son, he said that he could see an Orting Police officer driving toward him on State Route 162; the officer stopped and detained the man at SR 162 and 136th St. E.

Deputies drove to the location and contacted the second suspect, who provided multiple stories about how and why he was not involved in the burglary. When confronted with the facts of the incident, the suspect responded "(expletive) it, I'm going to prison for ten years anyways". The second suspect told the deputies that he and the first suspect wanted to "make some quick cash" and decided to burglarize the victim's property. He said they walked from his Jeep to the house, and he acted as a "lookout", then ran away when he was confronted by the homeowners. The suspect said that he saw the deputies' patrol vehicles and laid on the ground under some trees to hide for several minutes before walking away.

The 24 year old male suspect who fled from the scene was booked into the Pierce County jail for Burglary in the 2nd degree and an active warrant for Driving While Intoxicated; he has nine previous felony convictions for property crimes in including theft, residential burglary, and theft of a firearm.

WTF is this guy doing on the streets?

ohhh.. poor me... I'm addicted to Heroin, I just need money.... I'm the victim.. I have a disease.

Can we get a “10 strikes you’re out” law? Please? Anything?

I know you're being funny here but what happened to the "three strikes" law?
Honest question.

Not quite mate. What you're suggesting is the property owner goes from a good guy with a gun catching a felon, to becoming murderer. There is a fine line between self defense and homicide. Unless of course you were being sarcastic.

I know I was, when I suggested a way to dig the hole. :wink05:

This reminds me of an ex coworker many years ago was really late for work and when we asked him why he laughed and said he had heard a noise and got up to see what it was. He had his 357 wth him and saw a shadow and cocked the his 357 and told the guy to freeze, he then turned on the light and made the guy sit down in a chair next to the phone (old days when we all had land lines then) and made the guy call 911 on himself. The guy tried to give the cops the excuse he was in the area drinking with friends (he was from Seattle area) and entered the wrong house but when asked could not come up with the name or address of his friend.
