Okay WAGunners, this is a thread to challenge and give some boasting of good deeds to hopefully provide some incentive to go do some good deeds. :)
I will start. Today, already running slightly late to something, I was driving on a very busy 45mph two lane road with almost no shoulder. I saw a small woman struggling to load a dog as big as her into the drivers back door of an SUV, as steady speeding traffic zipped by in both directions. The dog was clearly not cooperating, and she could barely control it, and it was basically standing on the white line of the road.
Knowing the possible outcome of an accident, dead girl, or dead dog, I stopped. Barely room on the edge for my SUV. Turns out she saw the dog running in traffic and grabbed it. It probably would have been hit within moments on that road. She had called the number on the tag, and the owners were 45 minutes away and coming.
I had a dog leash in my vehicle, so I secured the dog. She moved her SUV to a close parking lot. We loaded up the big dog into her SUV and she went to meet the owners who lived nearby.
Gave me a very good feeling helping her save this dog. I do stuff like this on a regular basis.
So many people just drove by this woman and dog, and most didn't even slow down. I'm challenging others here to lend a hand to someone in need. Share your experiences. :)

Was on the way out of town to go camping. Heading east on Hwy18 between Auburn Way and Auburn - Black Diamond road saw a minivan sitting in the westbound left lane, no hazards on and cars were dodging it at highway speed Turned around at the Blk. Dia. exit, pulled up way behind the van, turned my 4ways on and walked up to the van. This Latina lady with freaked out look on her face, doors locked, she cant open them to even get out, drivers window barely cracked, barely speaks English, I could barely explain to her to pop the hood. Whaddaya know, loose cable clamp on the battery's + post. Wiggled it on a little, pop out the door she goes. I showed her what the problem was, wedged a piece of wood into that clamp where it was solid enough for her to get off the freeway and off she goes. As i was finishing up state trooper pulled up, checked it out, gave me thumbs up and off we went. When we get snowed on i usually get the tow rope and a shovel and cruise around pulling folks up the hills. Love that old 2 door Tahoe on T/A KO2 35's in the snow, it's a beast!

EVERYTIME I go to Gene Coulon Park to launch my boat I end up with 10,000 Karma points, it seems most people (myself included) are left alone to park or retrieve the truck and trailer....the parking is so tight that you need a spotter to get out and sometimes we have to pick up the back of a trailer and "bounce it over" so a corner can be made without transferring paint.
unfortunately it looks like boating season is over...I was hoping for another good weekend before winterizing it

Since I retired I spend a good bit of time traveling and on the water, I fish a lot. There are people (stupid people) at boat ramps and on the water, some need help or they're going to hurt someone else so I usually interject into situations that I see as dangerous. There have been many of those situations that I am happy to say that no one died or lost extremities. I do what I can to help people when needed, that's just how I roll.

Rita & I were motoring down the Duwamish River from our marina. At the turn into Elliott Bay, maybe 400 yards away we see a 35' sailboat sailing up the river. I thought to myself "you've got bigger balls than me, no thanks". Our turns in the river take us out of sight of the boat and I don't think much about it until we make our last turn and the boat's about halfway between us & the mouth of the river, now maybe 200 yards away, but and sailing downriver toward the bay, but not making much headway as the wind was on their nose, and there's not a lot of room to tack in the channel (hence my thought about bigger balls).
The Duwamish is very busy with tug boats and giant barges going by constantly as well as commercial boats and pleasure craft, and these guys were obviously in trouble. Tried hailing them on the VHF, no response, so I motored over to get within hailing distance. Their battery had died, but their diesel was running when it happened, so they had power off the alternator, but decided (for some unknown reason) to shut down the diesel and sail the rest of the way to Elliott Bay from somewhere up north. When they tried to restart the diesel, nothing, no starter, so no alternator, so no power to their radios, and their cellphones were dead.
Even though my boat's only 25' and theirs was 35', I offered to tow them up to Harbor Island. I called Harbor Patrol on my VHF & told them what was going on, because having two sailboats struggling up the river was going to require a bit of coordination with them and any traffic that might have been inbound or outbound while we transited the distance. We put together a starboard to port shoulder tow and I instructed the woman that because she had the much larger rudder, she'd be the one steering us while I provided power with our outboard.
The tow went off without a hitch, we even made the landing at Harbor Island on the first try (I didn't expect that to happen). We got them in contact with some friends, made sure everyone was OK, and headed off to go sailing. On our way back in (our marina's right next door), we saw that they were still tied up alongside the pier we'd dropped them on, so we swung by to see if they needed further assistance. They'd managed to coordinate a new battery to be dropped off to them by a friend and were waiting on their arrival. We wished them well and returned to our marina.
Just for reference, we have a fixed VHF radio that runs off of two deep cycle batteries, two handheld VHF radios, one of which can run off of AA's if it become necessary (and floats), and at least two cell phones depending on who we're sailing with. Having had to get towed back in once due to carburetor fouling (never-ever buy ethanol laced gas again), I don't ever want to be stranded with no way of communicating like they were. Should it happen, I also have the emergency orange flag I can run up my halyard to let people know I'm in trouble (day), and emergency strobe (night). I don't believe in being unprepared.

this happened over Labor Day weekend.
So on Sunday the wife and I had to grab a few things from Tractor Supply, as we were standing in line to pay for our goods an older lady was in front of us and asked the clerk is someone could load the items she bought into her Pickup and the clerk replied with "they will be available in 10 mins" so I looked at my wife with a frustrated look and told the customer in front of me "I will gladly load it for you" the look on her face was sooooo warm and appreciative I almost teared up. I walked out and she went and pulled her pickup in front of the store and I loaded up 3 bundles of wood shavings into her cab, she thanked me profusely and I said it was no problem at all. It made my whole weekend.

Great examples folks. This made my morning.
Keep 'em coming. And look for ways today to lend a hand to someone in need.

Saw a bum passed out on a guys front yard alongside a bicycle on 148th yesterday morning. I stopped and asked him if he needed help. Mumbled that he was OK, wasn't there an hour later when I came back.

I didn't do a good deed today, but I just got a call from a stranger. This guy found a couple of packages on the road with my name, and address on them. One had been opened so I guess he got my number off the receipt. He described the contents, so everything was there fortunately. He is now dropping them off at my apt office. My faith in humanity has been restored. How the boxes got where they were found, that will be a follow up thead.

Mike was complaining that the free lunch he got today would make it difficult to continue to install flooring (lots of bending involved - tough on a full stomach)
I offered to eat some of his lunch so he wouldn't have to endure such discomfort (he gave me A bite of chicken)

Part II: No one was at the apt office so the guy called me up again, and he was nice enough to wait for me while I hauled butt to go meet him at the apt. Nice kid, fellow gun enthusiast. Invited him to our weekly lunch next week to repay him. He said he found my package, and another guys package on xxx street. When I got to my apt there was a fuckex door tag saying it wasn't delivered since no one was home, and they will try again Thursday. I'm not going to call fuckex today, I'm going to see what happens when they try to "deliver" it tomorrow. Then see what they have to say. Time to put the locking porch box like I had back in WA back into action. Why the thief didn't keep the stuff is weird, there was a holster, Hornady Critical Defense .223, and a 3X prism scope.

At my wedding, I gave the pastor a check for $200, He handed it back, so I put it in the right pants pocket of my suit. Few years later I got a letter with the check in it, looked like the day I wrote it. Lady in Port Orchard said she bought some pants for her husband at a thrift store and the check was in the pocket, wanted to return it to me. Two things pissed me off: 1: Ex wife donated the trousers that went to my suit without asking me, was looking for those. 2: Thrift stores don't wash donated clothes before they sell them. Probably end up with lice if you wear them without having them dry cleaned. I always thought they washed that stuff before they sold it.
