Googlie is tracking everything we say and do. I have a new phone and have noticed some scary inappropriate shit it does for me without asking. I was looking for a location of a certain donut shop and got on Maps. Tapped the letter C and the phone located the Shop in question...not Costco or Cost Less Pharmacy but this little donut shop 15 minutes away. I mentioned on FB using my laptop that I was gonna swing by and pick up a dozen......my cel phone knew where I was headed.
This is not right and a complete invasion of privacy.

i bet you didn't read the fine print when you were setting up your phone when you clicked "Agree" in the terms and conditions of service it's all in there, you agreed to allow them to use any and all data for any and all purposes they deem appropriate
not judging you, we all do it, i did it, there is no other way to activate your phone
hell, even your TV is spying on you and then sells the info to marketing agencies that push ads on your phone:
According to the agencies’ complaint, starting in February 2014, VIZIO, Inc. and an affiliated company have manufactured VIZIO smart TVs that capture second-by-second information about video displayed on the smart TV, including video from consumer cable, broadband, set-top box, DVD, over-the-air broadcasts, and streaming devices.
In addition, VIZIO facilitated appending specific demographic information to the viewing data, such as sex, age, income, marital status, household size, education level, home ownership, and household value, the agencies allege. VIZIO sold this information to third parties, who used it for various purposes, including targeting advertising to consumers across devices, according to the complaint.
like i said in the other thread, the only way to dump Google is to stay away from "smart" phones, and social media for that matter. not all can do it but it can be done
ETA: phones can be rooted or hacked to bypass the built in systems collecting data, but from my experience even if you do root it then the functionality of apps such as maps and browsers is so limited because permissions are disabled and the app won't work unless you enable the OS required parameters. and a lot of the 3rd party apps that are installed collect data as well, it's not just Google or Apple that is collecting data

Yes, the millennials and their targeted advertising platforms (to which you choose to continue submitting your personal information) are to blame.
Come on, guys. Of all the privacy encroachments in our lives, these are some of the easiest to reduce. If it concerns you so much, stop using Facebook and mapping apps. The price of convenience is security, and vice-versa.

Did you not read the article.....you can choose to pause the mapping...but Googlie still tracks and the history is still written.
Well, loosing the map app would be great...if you could erase that app from your fone..
I tried on my IP 4....it wouldn't dump it.
There are apps that are permanent.....newsstand, facetime, maps, i trune store etc...
I'm old enough that Ill leave the fukin phone at home.
I could care goddamn less about being available 24/7
BTW I knew where the Donut shop was...just didnt remember if it was north or south of 56th st.
If it wasn't for what I do as a sport...I wouldnt partake in Zukerfuckers horseshit facebuk either. Ask Duke EB....
I was the last holdout.
I want this more than "reduced".....it should be eliminated.

for maps one can use a standalone navigation device, i'm not sure if those do any data collecting, they probably do, but as long as it's not "registered" to you in any way (phone#, email, name/address) then it should be fine

People laugh when they see I've painted over the camera on my cell phone and computer. That Siri thing that sits in people's houses and listens to them... Crazy shit. They not only listen in on your conversations, they get YOU to PAY for it. Stoopit, stoopit, stoopit.
Technology is an anti-Christ (where's my tinfoil emoji?!)
Jim, you need to get a Jitterbug!

I disabled the laptop cameras in the BIOS and put bandaids over them. Pulled out the mic in the Comcast remotes, and bought a lesser model 4K Samsung TV that didn't have voice commands. My cell phones use a made up gmail account and phone account is not in my name.
Went to a Mark Russinovich Sys Internals class a few years back at the WA CJTC. The number of forensic investigators who have bandaids or tape over their laptop cameras is near 100%.
His best line was "Windows Add Remove Programs in Control Panels. Has anyone here ever used that to add a third party program? No,I haven't either."

If you ever wonder what a company sells to make money, you are the product.
Some phone apps require access to: GPS location, speed, acceleration emails texts contacts internet history camera microphone stored files stored pictures shopping history and data from other installed apps
But hey, at least the cute app was 'free'.
