1-2 hours?
Vashon or the Kitsap Peninsula area. If they can go a little farther, the Port Townsend area.
Leavenworth area, but they'll have to like snow and tolerate the tourist periods.
There's a reason why these areas are starting to get gray. I went to HS in Leavenworth 25 years ago and the median age in town has increased by 10 years. That might not seem like much but it's huge.

I do mortgage loans and I have done quite a few loans for retirees out in the Port Orchard and Bremerton areas. I used to work in Leavenworth in the early 80's during the summer tourist season. You can't twist my arm enough to spend any time there now.

Bellingham is not so cheap anymore.
Do they vote properly? If not, then not welcome. Sorry.

Try to convince them to stay away from the big city spots. If I were to retire right now, I would look for a place in White Salmon overlooking the gorge.

They might also consider Camano island. View property there is still reasonably priced and it's a quiet area.

I'm literally 400 yards from that RTA boundary. No RTA tax for us!
