Hey Dreadi- I went with a PreVal sprayer and mixed it for a matte finish. It did not turn out perfectly, but from 2 feet away you would never know it. :ROFLMAO:

I was so tired of repairing blued surfaces. I decided to try something different. I know DuraCoat doesn't have the reputation which CeraKote has, but done
correctly, it has proven more durable than bluing according to several sources.

Ah I see. Yeah you can't "mix" using the aerosol rattle can option. Did you consider the DuraBlue? Despite that reputation that I have observed as well, I want to get it right. I've been wondering if it's not just all in the prep but, there's possibly less room for error in spraying Duracoat than there is in Cerakote.

Agreed, dreadi. I coated one rifle with their aerosol in flat black, and it turned out very well- the can had been sitting for 6 months and still performed well. I would suggest getting some PreVal sprayers and going with the cheaper option of mixing it yourself. The PreVal bottles are about $9 each and you get to use your left over product later, unlike the aerosol version. I have an aerosol of DuraBlue, not sure where I will use it. Anyhow- I am happy with the DuraCoat.

I have an airbrush and an air compressor. I can't imagine using an aerosol sprayer unless I just wanted to try it out. My original plan was to get all the OCP colors in aerosol but then I looked at the cost vs bottles and tools. I've got a hankering to spray something again.....thanks.

Just now finished a range trip testing a new rifle hold I thought of while in the woods yesterday. With a surplus AK sling you can grab the aluminum reinforcement at front and with the hinge, hold it to the center of the lower hand guard and use it as a foregrip. Haven`t yet compared my groups but it felt much more stable. I also noticed that on round 7 of 10 I encountered a stoppage in which the bolt failed to fully strip the top round. It was partly removed from the magazine, partly not. Had to drop the mag, reload it into the mag, and recharge the rifle. This is the second time it`s happened, and I was using a different mag.

Installed a Midwest Industries rail courtesy of one of the great members here on WGO. Came missing two screws which will hopefully be rectified soon. I dunno what Midwest Industries uses as a finish on their metals but it feels great in the hand! My only gripe is of course that the cleaning rod is no longer capable of storage under the barrel and that it doesn`t let me use the sling.

Did some accuracy and precision tests on some different .223/5.56 ammo at 100 yards to use in a new 20" upper from PSA. Tested out some AE AR223 55gr, AE M855, IMI M193, IMI 5.56 OTM 69 and 77gr, SSA 69gr OTM, and PPU 69 and 75gr match ammo. I was only using a 1-4x24 scope (Burris M-Tac). Was surprised to see that the best shooting ammo was American Eagle AR223. Was getting 1-1.5MOA with this stuff. Was scoring about 1.5-1.9MOA with IMI and SSA match ammo. PPU Match ammo was shooting regularly around 2MOA. IMI M193 averaged 3MOA. AE M855 averaged around 4MOA. I'm glad my rifle prefers the cheapest of the bunch! :thumbsup2: Planning on doing more testing with Federal XM193, Wolf Gold, PMC Bronze and PMC X-Tac.

What's the twist rate on the barrel?

Well. Should correct myself. Mostly Aero.
Aero lower, upper, hand guard, LPK and barrel. AIM BCG. Magpul furniture.

I'll post pics tomorrow. Needs a few upgrades and I need to buy some .308 ammo and learn what it likes to eat.

I "found" a polished 6.8SPC BCG in my safe. I don't remember polishing it. But it is a Superbolt, and runs like it's on ball bearings so I put it in my 6.8 AR.

This was yesterday, but I went up to Rehv Arms to leave a few projects with them for final assembly.

I cannot wait to get my AR10 done.....Now, I need an optic.

It's a 1:7 twist melonite-finished barrel with a 5.56 chamber. Surprised me too. I thought the heavier match ammo would group much better. I'm still hanging onto them for when I get the chance to do some longer-range shooting at 200-300 yards with a higher magnification scope; I have a feeling they'll fair much better then.

I found MI rails to be pretty heavy.

I went with Manticore Arms, whose rails are right at what the wood handguards weigh...
